Global HiPPP Alliance

About Us
The Health in Preconception, Pregnancy and Postpartum (HiPPP) Global Alliance (the Alliance) was formed in 2018 in response to the impact of overweight and obesity among women before, during and after pregnancy. The Alliance comprises international, multidisciplinary, expert stakeholders across consumer, community, government, private and public health services, workplaces and primary care, representing leading international academic bodies from five continents.
Our agreed aims include:
- To establish priorities for preconception, including inter-conception (the time between pregnancies), pregnancy and postpartum healthy lifestyle and care to prevent maternal obesity and related pregnancy and long-term complications (priorities were developed using a modified Delphi and Nominal Group Technique)
- To review quality, identify gaps and update evidence-based guidelines for weight and lifestyle management in HiPPP
- To co-develop workforce development priorities and strategies
- To establish a HiPPP international early- and mid-career network
- To co-develop consumer involvement priorities for HiPPP and maternal obesity prevention.
Following the inaugural Global Alliance forum held in Prato, Italy in September 2018, we have collaborated on a number research initiatives including e-health advancements, the co-development of the HiPPP Consumer and Community Involvement Framework, establishing the HiPPP early and mid-career network (HiPPP EMR-C), publishing a book chapter and a number of research articles. The next Global HiPPP Alliance forum will be held in 2021 to evaluate progress and establish new research priorities.

Inaugural Global HiPPP Alliance Two-Day Forum, Prato, Italy
The inaugural Global HiPPP Alliance two-day forum was held in Prato, Italy in September 2018.
Thirteen leading international experts in women’s reproductive and lifestyle health, two consumer representatives and six early career researchers representing five continents came together to establish agreed research priorities for lifestyle health and maternal obesity prevention in preconception (view paper) and pregnancy (view paper). The Alliance also workshopped values and principles for Consumer and Community Involvement, as part of the foundational phase of the co-development of the Global HiPPP Alliance Consumer and Community Involvement Framework. Forum outcomes have been instrumental in guiding a number of subsequent research innovations, including aspects of CRE HiPP.
